Kyunghwa Hong’s piece explored the landscape of a life’s travels toward home and the relationships that support and propel us on that journey, starting with dancers appearing as individual shadow who eventually link hands as they make their way across a lifetime of peaks and valleys.
In collaboration with scenic designer Jungah Han, I designed custom lighting for a set of small suspended practicals and a stainless steel two story house outline.
Lighting moments included backlighting two middle suspended houses — one upside down and one right side up — juxtaposing shadows and emphasizing a feeling of overwhelm as the dancers huddled together.
